Heart Disease Awareness

February is Heart Disease awareness month, and since heart attack and stroke are the nation’s number one and number three killers knowing the warning signs is important.
First, to help lower your risk, diet and exercise are very important. Regular physical activity adds up to a healthier heart. Swimming, cycling, jogging and great activities to build a strong heart, in lowering chances of a heart attack or stroke. Having a healthy diet by eating raw and natural foods also helps lower your chances as well.
Sometimes, diet and exercise just aren’t enough to protect yourself from a heart attack or stroke. Genetics plays a role in your chances as well. Some of the warning signs for a heart attack are:
- Chest discomfort
- Discomfort in other areas o fthe upper body such as arms, back, neck or jaw
- Shortness of breath
- Cold sweat
- Nausea
- lightheadedness
If you think that you are someone else could be having a heart attack, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1. There is a higher chance of survival if the victim gets help sooner.
Stroke symptoms are as follows:
- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg
- Confusion, trouble speaking/understanding
- Trouble seeing, walking
- Severe headaches
Again, if you notice these signs in yourself or someone else call 9-1-1 immediately.
